Microsoft Dynamics CRM is developed by Microsoft for Customer Relationship Management. Microsoft also projects it as a XRM platform and encourages its partners to utilize its proprietary framework for customization. Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a member of Business Applications of Microsoft Dynamics family.
Dynamics CRM, like Microsoft SharePoint, is a server-client IIS based web application that can support extensive web service interfaces. Clients can access Microsoft Dynamics CRM by either using a browser or by a plug-in to Microsoft Outlook. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox –all are well supported by Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 & 2012 versions. The current version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 has more than 40,000 customers.
Microsoft CRM 1.0 was launched in January 2003. Microsoft CRM 1.2 was introduced in December 2013, but was not accepted by the industry. The second version was renamed Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 to indicate its inclusion of the Microsoft Dynamics Family and was introduced in December 2005. Updates and up-gradation over version 1.2 was notable for the ease in providing customizations to CRM, switching to Microsoft SQL Reporting from Crystal Reports, compatibility with Windows Vista and Outlook 2007 and supporting Exchange 2007. Significant updates were released in recent past allowing various mobile devices to access Dynamics CRM 3.0 and integration with Siebel Systems. This version received considerable customers’ response. Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, introduced in 2007, features improved data importing, reporting security, multi-tenancy, direct mail merging and supporting Windows 2008 & SQL 2008. It also implements CRM online and allows ISVs. Dynamics CRM 4.0 is the first CRM product to enjoy over 1 million users within July 2009. The latest version Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 was released in November 2013. The newest version of MS Dynamics 2015 was announced in September 2014.
