Case Study: International Retail Services

International Retail Company Seek Greater Flexibility to Support an Expanding Business

Business Challenge

An international retail services company was in the process of developing the next version of its information management system used to support its daily business operations. This system is used to maintain general and financial information about the customer’s offices, clients, projects, shoppers, surveys, invoices, and payments. The version of this system that was in production had a number of limitations that result in users having to work around the system in order to accomplish their daily tasks. The next version was intended to remove these limitations and make the system more flexible in order to better support the customer’s expanding business.

Our Solution

i3solutions’ used a distinctive approach to make maximum use of the customer’s existing investment in IT resources while leveraging the power and flexibility of our i3.NET solution framework to implement the application. Through the use of the i3.NET framework we designed, developed, and implemented a solution that is easy to use and maintain. Built on an n-tier .NET architecture, our approach combines the rapid implementation and reliability benefits of a COTS product with the flexibility and made-to-order benefits of custom development. By building the new system on the proven i3.NET framework, our development team was able to focus most of the efforts on developing customer-specific business logic instead of spending valuable time and effort developing core application functionality.

The result was immediate and far reaching. The new solution provided the customer with an integration of custom software and COTS components that can be configured and customized by business analysts and administrators rather than developers. It provided the customer with consistency and enforced standards and dramatically streamlined user experience. In addition, because the new system was easy to enhance and extend, the customer had the ability to quickly develop other functionality within the enterprise.
