Using SQL Server Reporting Services, report
definitions are published and managed either
on demand or on a specified schedule, and
are cached for consistency and performance.
Reporting Services also supports report
delivery in different formats best suited to
the user specific environment, such as:
-
Portable Document Format (PDF):
Creates reports as PDF files that can be
viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader
-
Microsoft Excel:
Exports reports to Microsoft Excel
spreadsheets and retains original layout
and formatting
-
Comma delimited text
-
HTML 3.2 support:
Enables on-demand viewing within HTML
3.2-compatible browsers
-
HTML 4 support:
Enables on-demand viewing within HTML 4
browsers, such as Microsoft Internet
Explorer
-
TIFF:
Renders reports as graphics or
metafiles, including any format that
Microsoft Windows GDI+ supports (.bmp, .emf,
.gif, .jpeg, .png, .tiff, and .wmf
files)
-
Office Web Components (OWC) support:
Provides additional client
interactivity; uses the client-side
chart control to render charts, and the
PivotTable® control to render matrices
-
Web archive (MIME-encapsulated HTML):
Supports standard Multipurpose Internet
Mail Extensions (MIME) encapsulation of
aggregate HTML documents, embedding
resources such as images within a single file; useful for creating copies of
reports that do not require access to
the report server
-
XML:
Can create XML documents with the data
contained in a report; in addition, an
accompanying XML schema description
may be generated
Users can easily choose the desired report
format from a dropdown menu and have them
delivered in a variety of formats.
